Dr. Mario Plebani is a distinguished leader in clinical laboratory medicine and diagnostics. He currently serves as Full Professor of Clinical Biochemistry and Clinical Molecular Biology at the School of Medicine, University of Padova, where he also holds the position of Chief of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University-Hospital of Padova. Following his medical degree summa cum laude from the University of Padova, he completed residency training and specialization in Laboratory Medicine and subsequently in Gastroenterology at the same institution. In 2017, he was appointed Dean of the Medical School of the University of Padova, a position that underscores his significant influence in medical education and administration.
Professor Plebani has established himself as a preeminent researcher with an impressive scholarly output of over 1,100 full papers and more than 900 abstracts, accumulating an H-index of 88 with over 20,000 citations. His groundbreaking research has focused on quality management in laboratory medicine, diagnostic and laboratory errors, biomarkers in cancer and cardiovascular diseases, and in vitro allergy diagnostics. Beyond his research achievements, Professor Plebani has served as Chief of the Centre of Biomedical Research for the Veneto Region since 1991, establishing it as a specialized center for quality in laboratory medicine. He directs the Post-graduate course of Clinical Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Padova, mentoring the next generation of clinical laboratory professionals.
