Professor Florian Holsboer is a world-renowned psychiatrist and depression researcher who served as Director of the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich for 25 years from 1989 to 2014. Born in Munich on May 27, 1945, he completed his studies in chemistry and medicine at Ludwig-Maximilians University with dissertations in theoretical chemistry and genetics. After receiving board certification in psychiatry in 1983 and completing his habilitation in 1984, he was appointed to the Chair of Psychiatry at the University of Freiburg in 1987.
