Dr. Fei-Yue Wang is a highly distinguished scholar and visionary leader in the field of complex systems and intelligent control. Currently serving as Full Professor at the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Beijing, he holds the position of Chief Scientist and Founding Director of the State Key Laboratory for Management and Control of Complex Systems. After receiving his Ph.D. in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1990, Dr. Wang established himself as a pioneering researcher through his innovative work in intelligent control systems. In 1999, he founded the Intelligent Control and Systems Engineering Center at CAS under the Outstanding Oversea Chinese Talents Program, later becoming Director of the Key Laboratory of Complex Systems and Intelligence Science in 2002 and Vice President of the Institute of Automation in 2006.
Dr. Wang is globally recognized as the creator of parallel transportation systems and the innovative concept of parallel intelligence, which has revolutionized approaches to intelligent control and management of complex systems. His groundbreaking theory and application of parallel testing for autonomous driving has been widely adopted by startups and automotive manufacturers worldwide, establishing new standards in transportation research and development. With over 600 scholarly papers, 20 patents, and dozens of books to his name, his contributions to social computing, computational intelligence, and knowledge automation have fundamentally transformed how researchers approach complex system management. The concept of duplicating the real world with virtual shadow systems or digital twins for real-time decision making through real-virtual closed-loop feedback represents his most influential theoretical contribution, which has been implemented in large traffic networks across China.
As a highly influential figure in his field, Dr. Wang has served as Editor-in-Chief of multiple prestigious journals including IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems and IEEE Transactions on Computational Social Systems, shaping the intellectual direction of systems research globally. His leadership extends to numerous professional organizations, having served as President of the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society from 2005 to 2007, Vice President and Secretary General of the Chinese Association of Automation from 2008 to 2018, and currently as President of CAA's Supervision Council. With over 115,000 citations and an H-index of 111, his scholarly impact continues to grow as he mentors the next generation of researchers in complex systems science. Currently focusing on advancing methods and applications for parallel intelligence, social computing, and knowledge automation, Dr. Wang continues to push the boundaries of intelligent control systems research while expanding its applications to smart cities and mobility solutions worldwide.
